They awake to the sound of rain,
and found their bicycles out side the
main entrance, the staff took it
apparently on themselves to move the
bikes, so they could clean a room. It's
a good job they didn't have to walk from
that moment onwards & some lucky jokers
could of been riding around Sale on some
smart Cannonade's. Breakfast was in
Didsbury village at the 'Time for tea'
cafe. A dozen wrong turnings, trying to
work out the route they reached the Sun
inn at Hadfield, a quick pint of
Guinness and on there way to cafe
Royston for a well eared fry-up. Now the
big push over the Woodhead pass.
At the top, the mist, rain & lightening
came down but they were well prepared.
Dropping down on to the Don valley trail
the weather turned very bad, heavy rain,
thunder and lighting.
There's something about riding your bike
in heavy rain as the cold stinging rain
hits you and runs down your neck,
glasses are useless and you can't see
shit, the kit you are wearing clings to
you & the brakes are all but de-funked.
(Days like that sort the men out from
the boys)
The nights pit-stop was the vicarage B/B
in Pennistone. An odd Chinese's meal for
tea, where they didn't do 'pancake
rolls' followed by a couple of Guinness
and the odd brandy to warm them up. £5
pound bet it would stop raining the next
day.
