From the
'Sligachan hotel' at the jct of the A-863 and A-89 we crossed the
old bridge over the river 'Sligachan' to a gate and the start of
this trail. straight away we were scratching our heads, co's their
are two trail tracks to choose from. Away don't take the trail
heading off down by the river, it stops after 350 yards. Pick the
trail climbing over the Glen moguls and head off up the valley,
most of it is ridable but you will have to concentrate 100
percent. On the trail there are tonnes of rocks just waiting to
flick you off, and 9 times out of 10 they did right into a peat
bog.
The trail fades
out below the impressive mountains of Coire nan Laogh (736m)
& Ruadh Stac (493m) so it's a push, shoulder the
bikes across some wet grounds and over a very slippy stream to a
trail on the other side. This trail took us past the left side of
Loch An Athain and also need full concentration, if you are going
to look at the view for gods sake stop. (If your there you'll know
what I mean) At the end of the trail we came to the sea with a
solitary white house in front of us and off to the right a 'Bothy'
(Free to use)
From here we
crossed the wooden bridge and tackled the steep track climbing up
to the summit off to the left. We all succumbed to gravity and
ended up pushing, only Nigel (Bog rider) managed to climb the
highest. At the top the rain started to hit us like shot blast, no
time for a pit-stop, it's full on downhill to the road and off the
peak. Turning left onto the road we headed off up hill to a
shelter spot for a break.

After the carbo
re-load we took the road B-8083 to the end of Loch Slapin and
crossed over the bridge and then turned left onto a trail right by
and sometimes in the edge of Loch na Sguabaidh. Again this trail
will sharpen up your single-track skills no-end, at the end of the
trail we came to a u-shaped jct & Luid. Here we turn left and
pick-up the road A-87 and headed to the end of Loch Ainort and a
right turn onto a narrow road. We did have a scare on the road due
to foreign drivers so we kept in as best we could. We cruised
along the road taking in the views to Sconer and the ferry
terminal around the headland. We follow the road all the way back
to the start in ore of the mountains and waterfalls pouring off
into the Loch, because it pissing it down and more and more rain
was running down are necks.
