After breakfast the pair headed off to
Ambleside town, Chiefy decided he needed a
bigger rucksack so he ditched the new old
one & opted for a new aero-back one 'Mmm..nice'.
The climb out of Ambleside was on steep
tarmac which gave way to tricky technical
wood tracks. once through the woods it was
down to Troutbeck & the campsite. The pair
picked up the valley track heading towards
the days big climb 'The High St'.
The pair rode until the front wheels became
airborne, so it was a big push for the
summit. 3/4 of the way up Kidder & Chiefy
were hit by a rain squall, so they dug in &
ate their pack-ups, with rain dripping down
their necks all the pair could do was laugh
at each other..! 'You won't get a
better day than this you know'
On
the top of the High St, the pair got to do
some riding, it was only because they
couldn't be arsed to walk anymore. The pair
of them dodging boulders the size of small
hatch-back cars, one wrong turn & it would
be 'Mountain Rescue call out time'.
For some reason Chiefy decided to ride over
Loadpot Hill, probably because
it was in front of him. Now a nice downhill
run to the 'Cockpit' & a
direction turn towards 'Ullswater Lake'.
The trail after Sandwick
turned into a battle of physical &
psychological destruction all the way to 'Patterdale'.
(If you've been on it, you'll know
what they mean)
At Patterdale YHA. the pair were greeted by
a female German member of staff who ordered
them to wait until she had finished her tea
before checking them in. So the pair headed
off to the kitchens to make a welcomed cup
of tea, only to be confronted by the 'Storm-trooper'
who ordered them to check in now she had had
her meal. The room at the YHA. was more like
a prison, dark & damp, so the pair
high-tailed it off to the pub to get
bladdered. Full of lasagne & Guinness,
Kidder & Chiefy sipped there pints watching
a pair of lesbians making out in a corner of
the pub. (Beats TV. any day)
