A 30 mile ride through
Derbyshire's spectacular Peak District starting & finishing
at Rowsley, Peaks Rail Jct off the A6 near Matlock.
~ Bicyclemania Ride ~ After a good
stuffing at Mac's on the way over to Matlock. Kidder & Chiefy
arrived at about 09.15 for a kick-off time of 10.00am. The
British Heart Foundation charity event fell on a free weekend so
Kidder & Chiefy were up for having a bash around the great
Derbyshire peaks. They register and rolled out of the Thomas the
tank engine site (Peak Rail Junction) and headed off into
the wild ......er ....tarmac roads. Kidder had just come off the
night shift and was felling a little delicate, so it was a slow
start.
The pair soon found
there cycling legs and started to turn the pace on. It was great
to see so many bikers out on the ride all helping to raise
money. About half way around the trailfinders (Kidder &
Chiefy) stop at the refreshments stand and had a drink and
bite, to there amazement along comes a lad riding a Santa Cruz
straight 8 with a full face helmet on ..... 'ho well each to
there own'. From then on the pair top geared it along the
off road trail for a good few miles collimating in a downhill
section of about 100 feet and back onto the road.
From here on it's a
steady run back to the finish line. Into the last village and
there's farmer Giles on his tractor towing a trailer full of
bales driving down the middle of the high street blocking Kidder
& Chiefy's way. Chiefy makes a dash for it and jumps the
pavement and bombs down the side passing farmer Giles, Kidder
gets stuck behind, but does manage to blast passed on a blind
bend ..nutter. The pair arrive back at the finish and receive a
little B.H.F. medal for there efforts and donations.
"The good thing about these charity rides is"
(A) you get to ride around a pre-set route which is signed &
Marshalled with refreshments so no need to keep stopping and
checking the map. (B) you make a small donation and help
a worthy charity to boot.
