~ Kidder & Chiefy ~

The two of them, rode a couple of routes around the Grizedale
Forest Park and then tested the local brews. Hawkshead was the
base camp for there stay in the Lakes, with a couple of visits
to Windermere. Kidder & Chiefy ended there stay in the Lakes
with a big bad mother of a ride, starting in Hawkshead they rode
up and over Hawkshead Hill and down into Coniston, With Kidder
having a quick dip in the lake on route to cool off.
From Coniston they
headed off towards Wrynose pass, riding around the foot of
Tilberthwaite Fells on a good trail to the river at Fell-Foot.
From there the two picked up the old road and started the long
long big climb to the summit of Wrynose pass at about 1.200 ft &
managing to pass a couple of slow going tourist cars. A quick
rest and then push the big ring, pumping their legs muscles to
the
Y-junction
at Hardknott Pass & Wrynose Bottom.
Here they took the
road route to the New Inn at Seathwaite for a hungry lunch and a
pint, sat in the beer garden staring through their pints at what
was coming next, or to be precise Walna Scar about 1.800 ft. The
trail was even more demanding now the track is covered with
loose slate. They had to keep the crank pressure to a minimum,
otherwise the rear wheel would slip out. At the top the views
were breathtaking Chiefy said,
'You wouldn't get another day like this again you know'
The down-hill run
off the top of Walna Scar to Coniston was technical in places,
plenty of loose slat's flying up. Chiefy had a pinch-flat 3/4 of
the way down, a quick fix and they were off to the bottom and in
next to no time tucking into tea and cream cakes in the village.
The two of them set off from Coniston towards Hawkshead, back
via the Hawkshead Hill at a slow pace until just out of Coniston
Kidder went for the blast home so Chiefy had to play catch-up,
up and over the hill like demented cats the pair hoofed it. The
day becomes night after a couple of beers and they end up
saying.
