~ Bicyclemania Ride ~

Low cloud greeted Kidder & Chiefy on the Sunday morning and what
seemed to be a mile long queue for the bogs. So there cheeks
clinched they head off to the little Chef and use it's
hospitality, Chiefy in the men's & Kidder in the women's. Then
after a good old health fry up back to the race village. On
arriving back at the venue Chiefy & Kidder were surprised to
find the organisers were less than impressed with his attempt to
wreck the start banner with there bikes on top of the car
pulling the banner down, they nearly ripped the hole bloody
starting structure down.
~ The Big Off ~

They both sat on there dales watching all the race whippets and
winner wont-a-bee's scurry off into the Welch countryside. And
then off Kidder & Chiefy went last over the line like two little
'fonzies'. The competitors were wall to wall for the
first 10 km, so the pair didn't lose any time. After they had
hacked there way through the back end of riders they started to
pick the pace up, the smooth tarmac country lanes helped Kidder
& Chiefy make up more places.
~ What No Food ! ~
Things started to turn bad at the second feeding zone when the
pair arrived to find no bananas & virtually no water too. Chiefy
looked well piss-off by this revelation. Kidder said,' Chiefy
saw his ass and lost his enthusiasm for the rest of the race'.
But with a few encouraging words from Kidder Like 'Come on
you miserable old git'.
~ Running On Empty
~

They set off on the next gruelling off road section. With the
50km point slowly approaching and the Welch terrain detraining
rapidly Chiefy had lost heart and called it a day, he could only
watch his mate push on alone. Chiefy was quite dehydrated so
Kidder doing the best mate thing, dispatched Chiefy off on a
marshal's quodbike to the next pick-up point, his race was run,
'you old bastard' ....!
~ Solo Kidder ~
After slogging through what seemed to be a 100km of thick Welch
mud Kidder finally reached the half way point. He had made his
mind up the Kona 100 was not going to beat him. If he could
conquer it he could take the piss out of Chiefy all year. The
next 30 to 40km were a lot easer on the legs, Kidder was in his
own little world and the terrain was passing by. The sighting of
other riders became increasingly scarce as the last few miles
were coming into play. Kidders riding became a blurry vision as
he was on auto-pilot dreaming of the finish line and a nice cold
pint of Guinness and a good feed. That was the only through
keeping him going, the last km's.
~ The Big Finish ~
Completing the Kona 100 was on of the best and gruelling races
Kidder has ever done, it had given him so much satisfaction
high-lighting in coming back into the finish arena totally
worn-out, covered in mud and on a high. The pair will be back to
compete in the next event...... |
