IT'S
SUNDAY, SO ITS ANOTHER EVENTS DAY
~ Bicyclemania Ride ~ Would you believe it,
a still and mild Octobers day. "No Mud
Bath to speak of"
Registration was very well organized and a simple
affair just sign in & say what time you are going to
start, tie on your number to the bike & at the finish
hand it into the time-keepers. The only downside this
year was we had to park & ride down to the
school in Redmile, due to the 'foot & mouth
restrictions'. Then after your ride once
you've stuffed yourself with tea and cakes, it
was a leg aching grind back up hill to the car
park.
The route this year had a different section in it, but
on the hole the same course as last year so you new
what was coming, or we though we did, the ground was
pretty firm going with just the odd slippery & muddy
bits in the off/road sections so it made for
delicate biking skills. As last year the route
took in canal tow paths, byways, woodland
tracks, short sharp up-hills, small
down-hills, edge of fields & country lanes.
And according to Bicyclemania, it looked like everyone who had a mountain bike
of some sort had turned up to do this event.
"A total of 976 rides had a bash
at the 50km route" one hell of a turn out ....again.
Everyone seemed to be in good spirits for the event
the route was well signed and marshalled too, the feed
stations were well stocked with juices, Mars bars &
bananas not like some major events Bicyclemania have competed in. A big thanks must go out to all
involved in the making this event even bigger and
better than last years.
'Are you up for it next year ........... see you
there!'.
