Rhabdomyosarcoma
(Rhab – do – my – o - sarcoma) is one of
the most aggressive out of the various types
over 400 types of cancers. It is a disease in which
cancer (malignant) cells begin growing in muscle
tissue anywhere in the body.
There are several types of Sarcoma that are found
in children and young adults. The cancer cells must be
looked at under a microscope to tell which type of
sarcoma it is. It accounts for approximately 3.5% of
the cases of cancer among young children 0 to 14
years, and 2% of the cases among adolescents and young
adults 15 to 19 years of age. It is a curable decease
in the majority of children who receive optimal
therapy with more than surviving 5 years after
diagnosis. The most common primary sites for
Rhabdomyosarcoma are the head and neck, other less
common sites include the trunk, intrathoracic region,
the gastrointestinal tract and the extremities
(arms, legs) intestines, including liver and
biliary tract, and the perineal/anal region.
The Chris Lucas Trust
is established to raise sufficient funds for a
Scientific Researcher.
To encourage and support high quality research into
Rhabdomyosarcoma, (a very aggressive cancer),
with the aim of maintaining and improving human
health. To help improve the quality of life of
children and young adults. To advance scientific
research and disseminate knowledge of research
findings to help other types of cancers with the aim
of meeting national needs in terms of health, quality
of life of children and young adults.
To promote public engagement
with medical research.
To work in collaboration
with all medical staff to ensure that the Chris
Lucas Trust aims and objectives are adhered to,
achieved. |

A GREAT DAY OUT FOR A NORTHUMBERLAND
COASTAL BIKE RIDE.
Firstly your attention, This is aimed to
those cyclists who give the good ones a
bad name you all know who you are. (Fancy
riding four abreast along country lanes
and main roads with fast moving traffic,
not to mention ignoring cycle friendly
tracks, paths etc)
It was a fantastic day out riding along
the well marked out route of the 'Great
North Bike Ride' Chiefy had to do
the ride in flip-flop pumps, co's he
forgot to pack his Spd's. (Muppet)
The weather was good, sunny with a nice
breeze to keep you cool whilst you were
cycling along the route. Groups of about
30 riders were set off in intervals so the
lanes and roads would not get over
congested. The route was well signed with
the odd water stops here and there, the
only hick-up Chiefy had was at a very
busies roundabout were the route signs
were misleading and a few cyclists headed
off down a very busies dual-carriageway
instead of using the traffic free cycle
lane.
All-in-all it was a great day out, and
well done to one and all. See you there
next year. |
