IT'S
SUNDAY, SO ITS ANOTHER EVENTS DAY
 |
~ Bicyclemania Ride ~
For a change the weather was good to us in early November,
no rain and plenty of sunshine. The
Bicyclemania
team riders were up to there usual habits of calling each
other on the start line, with comments like 'you'll
have a mechanical break down' or 'your crap at
riding'. From the start Rammstein and Treehugger got
ahead of Chiefy with a (not a very sports-man-like elbow
jab) just before the single-track section through the
woods. Chiefy maintains that those two unfriendly conducts
cost him his place and he was playing catch up for the
rest of the race. All three team riders had no mechanical
miss-haps and managed to stay on the bikes too. The grass
field at the start was tough going because your wheels
were sinking into the soft ground, On the far side of the
course the track was flattish but a head wind cut you back
and made for hard pedalling. Then came the quarry section
with its short sharp climbs mixed with short flat bits,
after than bit you hit a small section of road just enough
for the tyres to speed up.

On you went into
the theme parks far side and in and out of the big dippers
massive steel works, here there were some tricky sections
in and out of the woods. Once you had cleared the dipper
you had chance to blast it down a section to another
grassy-sapping bit, once again it made for hard
crank-turning. After that you were into the main theme
park area, unique to Lightwater Laike with its train-lines
and lake side tracks taking you in and out of the parks
rides. Lap 1 bagged, and as warm sunshine was starting to
heat you up.
The things we mountain
bikers do on any given Sunday!. This event is well
organized and good fun, so you don't mind the discomfort
when its going to help a charity and you get a buzz for
the days event, plus two days to dry out. |
