The day started with a good big fry up of kangaroo burgers and thick heads.
"Ho no, it's Hardknott Pass" ..... "It's a tough one, but
can be done!." (One of the steepest roads in Britain)
1,289ft & it's all up hill all the way. Sun-Ray takes point followed by
Fatwhippet and then Casper the backpacks make it hard work.
It's non-stop to the top granny ring all the way leaning
forward to keep the front wheel down, we all make it without getting
off & then comes a nervy downhill steep twisty section
which make the disc brakes work over-time.
(Rucksacks giving us a
overload on the back of our heads)
Walna Scar makes for another long tough climb (2,037ft) but
first the beers and then once over the top
the amigos find a rock pool to cool off in. Fatwhippet take this
opportunity to get cleaned up after bog snorkelling plus bike. Kit
dried off in the sunshine it's downhill all the way to Coniston. The
three have a quick beer stop again & then climb over Hawkshead Hill to the
ferry and over to Windermere. Sun-Ray orders another beer stop in
Windermere before the days final stop. |
