All
in all, Aston Hill has about 8 miles of trails, which you can
navigate with the help of a colour - coded grading system.
The
hill has been used in the past four years as a venue for the
SAMS X/C Series and the riders generally speak highly of Warby's
circuits. Two graded downhill options including the legendary
super steep, and super rooty black run - rumour has it, Rod
Warner is quite keen on it. The dual - course has just been
re-built with bigger jumps including an 8ft tabletop jump near
the top and set of 15ft doubles at the bottom- wicked !. |

RIDERS COMMENTS
Simon
From London:
Date: June 5th
Trail Ridden: Ridden Once
Review:
This course is orientated towards the downhill / play rider,
with a dual track and three downhill courses - as used in
the SAMS. However, if you're a trail /X-C rider like me the
red route single track is good fun, if quite short. Starting
on the downhill course, it eventually winds through
switchbacks into steep climbing, though not too technical at
all.
Rode the course once, and found steep climbs after tight
turns a bit hard as we didn't know what was coming, but if
you did the route a few times I reckon you could take it all
at a fair clip.
The dual is fairly
short, and not to OTT so if you take it easy you can ride it
on X-C along with the fox-mbuk brigade no problem. The car
park (a Saturday) was packed with long travel bikes (mostly
Orange) and full body armour dudes, but we never saw
anyone else on the X-C.
Very friendly staff and
tea-lady there too. Remember, day membership is £4 (refundable
if you join for a year) and lids are mandatory but you
always use a lid right? I rate it 4 as a well developed but
short X-C course for the trail rider, but down-hillers would
probably give this place 5. |

RIDERS COMMENTS
Alex's
From nr, Oxford:
Date: October 13th
Trail Ridden: Once a week
Review:
Aston hill is great for beginners and experts. The black run
is not too long but very steep 'n' technical. (must be
good as I saw Helen Mortimer and Rob Warner up there!)
the new DH3 course is longer but not as steep , still very
technical though! Its a bit more fun than the black course
though coz its longer and your not sh**ya pants all the way
down.
Its worth watching SAMS
up there. The course is pucker on dry days coz u can go flat
out, but be careful at the end hair pin!!!!!!!!u need to get
ure but right back over the seat. If your goanna ride
regularly up there its well worth getting a years
membership, this saves u loads of money. I was tempted after
watching the SAMS up there on august 11th. there's
everything u need on site from chocks bars to spare inner
tubes u shouldn't ride this if you don't have the right
specific bike. U got to have bottle...! Also its probably
worth walking the courses before riding. Definitely helps.
Recommended Route:
DH3, Cocaine Alley (black run.), and dh section of
the X-C. Other recommended trails in the same area: U cold
always go to Checkendon in reading, but not as good as good
old Aston hill! |

Have a bicycle, it helps!.
Always wear a cycle helmet.
Ride with a smile, not a bashed in face ..!
Expect the unexpected because it'll never happen ...!
properly ....?
Give way to walkers/ horses & be friendly towards other
forest users, especially sheep.
Never ride whilst under the influence of drugs, alcohol or
porno's ... Boring..!
Always have enough money with you. 'Duh', to buy
Bicyclemania trailfinders a pint.
Footpaths are for walkers only, ..... "
you know what we mean "
Ride flat-out & attack every hill, it could be your last
ride, ever .. ever ... ever!.
Please do not drop litter or fag butts, stuff'em down your
shorts.
DANGER ! Keep away from all forest operations like, S.A.S.
special training op's.
...'Only teasing' .... |
